Innercise: Visualization

Visualization is the process of creating what you want through crystal clear pictures in your mind. In addition to mental images, visualization can include vivid tastes, smells, tactile sensations and gut feelings. To understand visualization, you need to consider how the two parts of your brain work.

The conscious part of the brain is the part you are aware of and it focuses on one thing at a time—whatever we deem important at the moment. The subconscious brain doesn’t think this way. The subconscious brain sees a complete picture of everything happening all at once and is aware of the input from all of your senses at every moment. A good story evokes powerful mental images and those images can create an emotional response that is stronger than what is really happening in your life. How effectively you are able to move an idea from your conscious (imagination) to your subconscious (belief/action) will determine your success.

Visualization is the key to making this happen, because your subconscious mind doesn’t know that what you are visualizing is only in your imagination.

Visualization works best when the visual stories or mental movies you are crafting about yourself are combined with powerful emotions—feeling what you are seeing. Visualizing your ideal life can reshape your perception of reality, and once that happens, reality conforms to that perception. These images can be imprinted onto your nonconscious brain by repeating affirmations twice a day, every day at the same time. Ideal times to visualize are first thing in the morning and last thing before going to sleep at night. The half-awake/half-asleep state when you don’t have your conscious filters fully in place is the moment when your nonconscious is most accessible.
